I was brought up understanding full well the attributes of God that are big and impersonal- His sovereignty, majesty, omniscience, and omnipotence. The ones where He rules over all and sits on His throne overseeing the world. What I lacked was an understanding of the comforting and personal side of Him- His compassion, gentleness, love, and goodness.
In dealing with anxiety, I desperately needed the sovereign God and that brought me great comfort knowing that He was totally and fully in control of everything. It makes the world of difference when you are fearful of circumstances. On the other hand, when the sovereign God who is in control of everything is allowing year after year of trial after trial, a shift in thinking is needed to understand the gentleness, compassion, goodness, and love of God.
If you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time, you know a little of my story winding between being a momma to a kiddo with what ended up being auditory processing disorder and my own health. Those are the two biggest on-going trials although there have been many weaving in and out my whole life.
How Grateful for Gods Goodness began
This series began with a nudge to study God’s goodness a few years ago. I was excited to learn about and experience God in this light. As I began to study and ponder those phrases I got the idea to write down a way I felt God’s goodness each day so I made a sheet for myself. Then I felt the call to put that sheet up on my blog and so the Goodness of God Challenge was born. I am thrilled that you are beginning the journey to learn more about the Lord in a deeper way. I ended up being blessed by what He taught me. I gained a more appropriate and balanced view of God as well as a greater understanding of who He is.
What started as a challenge to find God’s goodness in my life ended with me being incredibly grateful for God’s goodness.
