Life Well Inspired

StandingOnThePromisesText

Reading through Genesis has been so inspiring and eye-opening.  There is so much more packed in there than one can ever imagine.  Of course, the Holy Spirit reveals things to the reader- that’s how God speaks to us today, but WOW!  He has been blowing me away.

One thing that has struck me as I have read through the stories of the great patriarchs is that God does not ask us to trust him blindly.  As we journey on through our lives with Him, we gain confidence and trust as we see him working in our lives, but more importantly, we have the testimony of the great men of the Bible to show us God’s faithfulness.  We can be sure of what we have experienced in our past and cling to how he has proved faithful in others lives during the times of uncertainty.  In a sense, we can borrow the faith of those who have gone on before us.

It is not only important to be spending time is God’s word to build relationship with Him, but we should be spending time in His word to strengthen our faith and build trust in Him from reading those great stories.

I am reminded of the great hymn, Standing on the Promises.  What a testimony to God’s faithfulness.

Standing on the promises of Christ my King
Through eternal ages let His praises ring,
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises I cannot fall
Listening every moment to the Spirit’s call,
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God.

Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

There is so much truth dripping from those words that bring comfort, for sure.  We can stand on God’s promises because the Bible shows God keeping his promises time and time again.  We can see God working all things for good and for his good plan.

There are two promises that I have been standing on lately.  One is from Isaiah and the other is from Psalms.  I hope you are encouraged by them, too.

I will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed upon Me.
~Isaiah 26:3

For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
The Lord will give grace and glory;
No good thing will He withhold
From those who walk uprightly.
O Lord of hosts,
Blessed in the man who trusts in you!
~Psalm 84: 11-12

What promises do you stand on as you walk through your life?

I'd love to know your thoughts!
