Pray for America- It’s Our Task and Privilege

Well, here goes week two of #LiftingAmericaUpInPrayer.  This task and privilege is one that is needed now more than ever.  God moved so mightily during the election- it was the highest turn-out of evangelical voters if not in history than in a long time.  That means that a lot of America is still standing for the Lord, regardless of the evil that seems to be so prevalent and in-our-face.

So America’s prayers during the election process were answered and now our prayers are much needed still as president-elect Donald Trump continues to choose his cabinet.  It has been so encouraging to see him choosing people who are going to join him in upholding our constitution.

I have stood amazed as I watch him unveil his plans just to hear that he is going to simply enforce the processes and laws that already exist.  We did elect someone who is going to uphold the constitution and He’s going back to what did make America great.

This week we need to be in prayer for those he has already chosen and for the positions still open.

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
1 Timothy 2:1-4

We need to pray against the division of our citizens and the hate that is fueling that division.  We need to ask God to unite America’s people, mend the riffs and bring families back together.  Clearly the devil is at work trying to thwart a turning back to God and we need to fight back on our knees, for it is God who will fight for us.  Nehemiah was a prophet who rebuilt the temple while under attack and this is exactly what he told the people.

In the place where you hear the sound of the trumpet, rally to us there. Our God will fight for us.”
Nehemiah 4:20

God is a God who can shake prisons and set men free.  He is also the God who parted the waters of the Red Sea to lead His people to freedom.  This is the same God we serve today and we can still see His power.  We need to thank God for our Christian heritage and ask him to restore Biblical principles in America once again. We need to ask Him to help us see His power at work.  We need to pray that we would be a nation who’s God is the Lord.

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!
Psalm 33:12

In Jeremiah we find a promise and we need to humbly pray for strength so that God’s people will turn to Him and that he would heal our land.

When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people,  if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.  Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place.
2 Chronicles 7:13-15

There is still a couple weeks before the final electoral votes are officially cast.  We need to be in prayer that God’s sovereign hand will thwart all plans and that the votes will be casted as expected and as they should.

“O Lord, God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. In your hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand you.
2 Chronicles 20:6

We need to pray specifically for the safety of our Law Enforcement Officers.  These days bring a new kind of danger and heartache for these men who are wrestling with the darkness of this world.  We need to ask God to protect our police officers and also their families who are supporting them.

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
Ephesians 6:12.

Join me today and throughout this week as we continue #LiftingAmericaUpInPrayer.
